Adding to the note about there being great, free children's programming out there. PBS Kids has a free channel for kids. If you have a Smart TV you can add the PBS Kids channel and have access to a wide range of amazing programming for free.

My kids have aged out of paw patrol (finally) but this is the ep that made me subscribe. Can’t wait to listen.

Per holiday labor - I delegated teacher gifts to my husband this year. Did he get it perfect? No. And that’s okay!

I get such a laugh out of freaking out over Paw Patrol. Chase is a police officer but he mostly just helps people, he doesn’t really “police.” It’s too black and white with morality but so are kids. Just let them watch what they are interested in and they will get tired of it (guaranteed). But also I have a very autonomous kid, and I can’t have an argument about every single thing.

The gender balance with the dogs is the biggest problem I have with the show. They have tried to balance it out by adding Everest and Liberty more recently, and there is a female mayor, her pet chicken (female), and a female farmer.

Honestly don’t worry so much about the shows your kids consume, just model model model the values you want them to absorb and have a chat with your kid(s) about the issues you have. My daughter absorbs a ton of bad messages from TV, YouTube, school (teachers, peers), and I can’t stop any of it. I firmly believe they will absorb what you model for them and you don’t have to “mold” their little minds.

I keep telling my almost 5 year old we’re going to have a chat about the police soon (she’s not quite ready to listen). I do mention if I disagree with something she says (lots of gender difference things come home from school so I am forever telling her that boys can like pink).
